Dara Louise Shelton

Dara Louise Shelton passed this life on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at Lynchburg Nursing Center, at the age of 72. The funeral service will be held Friday, March 21, 2025, at 3:00pm, at Lynchburg Funeral Home with Reekeetric Ford officiating. The family will receive visitors from 1:00pm until the time of the service. There will be no graveside service, therefore the family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to Camp Joy at PO Box 8192 Lynchburg TN 37352 in her honor. Mrs. Shelton was born in Fayetteville, Tennessee to the late Walter and Frances Walker Owens. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Onis Arnold Shelton. She had two lifelong church families with Lois Church of Christ and Huntland Church of Christ. Dara grew up in Gattistown, Tennessee and then Lois, Tennessee. She moved to Huntland upon marriage. She later returned to Lois, Tennessee to her childhood home until shortly before her passing. She worked at and retired from Amana Refrigeration in Fayetteville, Tennessee. Aside from her beloved Owens family, she also cherished her large Shelton family. She became "Mama Dara" to many of her Huntland church girls and her girl scout girls. Throughout her life she was an active member of her churches at Lois and Huntland, and she was also a girl scout leader. Dara enjoyed sewing and made much of her own clothing as well as an array of items for her family and friends. She enjoyed camping, fishing, spending as much time as possible with her family and gardening. She always had a large garden and enjoyed preserving her bounty of canning, but she most enjoyed sharing that bounty with her friends and family. She is survived by her children, James Shelton of Lois, Tennessee and Angie (Larry) Harris of Frankewing, Tennessee; her siblings, William Owens of Tullahoma, Tennessee and Andrea (Steve) Caldwell of Tullahoma, Tennessee; maternal uncle, David (Marie) Walker of Hoover, Alabama and her 101-year-old paternal aunt, Julia Robinson of Lois, Tennessee. Dara is also survived by five grandchildren, Cortney Shelton, Codie (Tori) Shelton, Kayla Shelton, Logan (Allie) Harris, Madisson Thomas; and two great grandchildren, Mallorie Shelton and Kayelynn Ross. The family would like to extend a special thank you to VIVA Senior Living at Lincoln (Lincoln Manor Assisted Living) in Fayetteville, Tennessee. During her short stay, the residents, and especially the staff became a part of her family. Thank you for loving her in the moments we weren't with her.
