Marilyn "Mert" Snell

Marilyn “Mert” E. Yates Snell, 81 of Fayetteville, Tn. passed away peacefully on Mar. 11, 2020 at Life Care Center in Tullahoma, Tn. Funeral service will be held Tuesday March 17, 2020 at 1 pm at Lynchburg Funeral Home. Dr. Bob Jared will officiate. Burial will follow in Lynchburg Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday Mar. 17, 2020 from 11 am till 1 pm at the funeral home. Marilyn was born Nov. 3, 1938 in Wooster, Ohio to Stewart and Alice Buchanan Yates. She was a 1957 graduate of Wooster High and went on to earn a degree in Criminal Justice at Kent State University. Marilyn traveled though many states though out her lifetime. She was a volunteer with Cuyahoga Valley (OH) National Park and secured a temporary position to build a 100 foot span of a covered bridge. Her hard work and determination spurred a career in the National Park Service that specialized in restoring historic structures. Marilyn traveled to different national parks and became proficient with dry laid stone walls and other old-style craft work. After retiring, Marilyn enjoyed her time volunteering at a senior center, push mowing her lawn, shoveling snow, working as a Post Master Relief Person in the Postal Service, and birdwatching. A lifelong learner, Marilyn collected nun fiction books for her extensive library. She had a deep appreciation of nature and enjoyed reading Mother Earth News magazines. Marilyn’s talents were many. She was an extremely accomplished artist- producing Native American Indian portraits and her Christmas Outdoor Displays were show stoppers. Marilyn was a diesel mechanic, EMT, yodeler and a Womens Arm Wrestling Champion in Alaska . Marilyn was a beloved mother, grandmother, community volunteer and a friend who loved to help out. Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents and siblings Karen Yates Kauffman and Ernest Yates. Marilyn is survived by her children: Doug (Deb) Snell of Wooster, OH , Denny (Connie) Snell of Lakeville, OH , Robert Snell of Kuwait , Ronald Snell of Jefferson Ind , Daniel Snell of Fayetteville, Tn , and Paul (Kami) Snell of Meridianville, AL , and brother: Gerald “Mose” (Eunice) Yates of Wooster OH. 5 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren
