Vanessa D Wells Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

On the morning of July 22, 2022, Vanessa Dale Wells Hedgspeth of Fayetteville gained her wings at the age of 69. Vanessa was born to Mary Alice Blackman and Houston Hedgspeth on July 20, 1953. She was well known and respected in the Fayetteville community, where she worked for the elementary school, Ralph Askins, for several years. She also devoted her time working at Lincoln Regional Hospital Donaldson and Lincoln Care Center. Vanessa was blessed with four children Danny Wells, Tanya Wells, Alisa Waggoner and Erica (Garrett) Waggoner. Vanessa was known for taking her daily walks. Even though Patrick Moore taught her how to drive, there was something about talking a walk that Vanessa just loved. Often she would be offered a ride just to respond, “ No, that’s alright. I’ll walk.” You could catch her walking to the post office or Gerlad’s Foodland to get her favorite drinks and food. Vanessa was known for her fried chicken and pork chops, but rarely shared her peppermints or her favorite drinks, Pepsi and Coke. Vanessa was a beautiful, intelligent, smart-mouthed, independent woman who truly loved and cared for all of her family. Vanessa is preceded in death by her father, Houston; her mother, Mary Alice; her sister, Telecia Blackman and devoted aunt, Betty Jane Hedspeth. She is survived by her remaining three siblings, Iris Blackman, Pamela Robinson and William Blackman; her four children, Danny, Tanya, Alisa and Erica; her eleven grandchildren, Jaron Wells, Crystal Howard, Cameron Garrett, Tianada Wells, IIissia Howard, Jahcenda Garrett, Preston Wells, Kanen (Wells) Amason, Lukus Garrett, Ja’Davis (Wells) Robinson and Ashanti Wells; five great-grandchildren, Nahziah Howard, Annabella Garrett, Jeriya Hawk, Logan Garrett and Kayson Amason; cousins, Linda Bonner, Vanessa Moore Buchanan and Patrick Moore; nieces and nephews. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, July 30, 2022 at 1 PM at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 307 Maple Street, Fayetteville, Tennessee. The family will receive friends from 12 PM until service time. Burial will follow at Antioch Cemetery in Fayetteville, Tennessee. Lynchburg Funeral Home is honored to serve the Wells family.
